October is Careers in Construction Month, and to celebrate we are interviewing a different member of our team each week, to find out more about their journey in the construction industry.
This week, we’re shining the spotlight on Marketing Manager, Rebecca, whose career in the construction industry began four and a half years ago when she joined Shropshire Homes as our Marketing Executive.
Despite her roles at Shropshire Homes being her first in the construction industry, Rebecca is no stranger to a building site – “my dad was a house builder, so I used to go on site with my hard hat and wellies on when I was a child.”
Rebecca was drawn to construction as she loves property, particularly interior design, and now appreciates being involved in the entire process; “I enjoy seeing a project coming together, from start to finish and seeing the communities created. I am lucky enough to visit some of our buyers once they're settled in their new homes, and it’s lovely to see how happy they are.”
Speaking on what she enjoys most about working at Shropshire Homes, Rebecca told us; “I like the people and the culture of the organisation. Most people are friendly and work well together. The directors are very much involved with the rest of the team and have an open-door policy.”
Rebecca particularly likes our houses themselves; “our homes are not your typical new builds, featuring more detail externally and having a high specification.”
Looking to the future, Rebecca is excited to see how her role continues to evolve as the company grows, aiming to support and take on more responsibility where she can.
When asked what advice she has for those looking to join the construction industry, Rebecca told us; “It depends what you want to go into within the construction industry. However, I would advise contacting construction companies you're interested in working for. If you need a qualification to fulfil to role, keep an eye out for those who have supported employees through education and training, i.e. apprenticeships, degrees.”
