Last year, Shropshire Homes funded and installed a new roundabout in Crudgington where the A442 and B5062 meet. Previously, the roads met via a crossroads which saw numerous vehicle collisions with some sadly resulting in fatalities.

The roundabout was developed using part of Shropshire Homes’ land from phase II of their Crudgington Fields development, with an aim to safely manage future traffic levels at the busy junction.

Katrina Baker, Clerk to Waters Upton Parish Council, commented “The roundabout at Crudgington has made a significant difference to the safety at this junction.  I have been Clerk to the Parish Council since 1988 and we have continually asked for improvements to the crossroads following many accidents.

“We would like to thank everyone involved – Shropshire Homes, Stave-Con, Telford & Wrekin Council in particular – whilst it is appreciated that the work took many months, it has been well worth the wait. Safety at this junction, where the A442 meets the B5062 is vitally important.”

Councillor for the Ercall Magna Ward of Telford & Wrekin Council, Stephen Bentley, also commented on the development of the roundabout, “When I was first elected to represent this rural Ward, I was approached within days to ask that I make the creation of a roundabout at Crudgington a priority.

“It was obvious that this was very important to the local residents and those using the roads regularly.  The cost of this major road improvement made it prohibitive for some years, but I am extremely grateful to officers of Telford & Wrekin Council and Shropshire Homes, in particular, for enabling this to become a reality.”

Despite the delays road users may have experienced due to the ongoing roadworks during development, Shropshire Homes firmly believe that now the roundabout is complete and in full use, the road users will reap the benefits of the new layout.
