At Shropshire Home we love to congratulate and celebrate our team, especially those who go the extra mile to make the world a better place, and today we are celebrating Mark Goodall, Health & Safety Assistant Manager. Mark is one of our very own heroes! Not only does Mark contribute to the safety and wellbeing of our team 40 hours per week, but he is also an on-call Firefighter for 120 hours per week!

Mark joined Shropshire Homes one year and four months ago, and has been a Firefighter for a total of seven years whist working other full-time jobs and being a dad of two children! Mark initially joined the fire service, as it gave him the opportunity to support his local town, particularly with the rescue side of the role. He also wanted to promote fire safety as a way of preventing fires.

Mark has found that working for the fire service means he is always improving his skill set, including initially training to be a Firefighter, recently completing his LGV and EFAD driving so he could become a firmark e engine driver, and he hopes to train to become the officer in charge by the end of the year.

When Mark was asked if both jobs help one-another, he said “Yes, lots – site set ups and the main office all need to be safe from a fire perspective, including completing risk assessments, doing the layouts annually, checking alarms systems and fire extinguisher locations.”

He added, “I also have the role at Shropshire homes of training all the fire marshals across the office and sites. I have adapted my presentation with a lot of knowledge of fire spread and added some great videos.”

We are very lucky to have Mark in our team, as are the Fire Service – he is a true hero and asset to Shropshire Homes! A huge thank you to Mark for keeping the local area and us safe!
