Shropshire Homes pride themselves in investing in their people and supporting their team with studying whilst working. Harry Wellard, Trainee Quantity Surveyor at Shropshire Homes, is thriving both in his education and work.

Harry recently obtained a Distinction in his HNC in Construction and the Build Environment through Shrewsbury Colleges Group and is now studying a degree in BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying at the University of Wolverhampton.

Funded by Shropshire Homes, Harry works four days a week in the office and studies at the University of Wolverhampton one day. The degree will take a total of four years and, once completed, Harry will be a qualified Quantity Surveyor. Harry has high aspirations and aims to get a First, which no doubt he will following his Distinction!

Harry decided he wanted to go into construction as it was an interest to him growing up, following in the footstep of many of his family who also work in the industry. On asking Harry what he likes about Quantity Surveying, he said “Quantity surveying has a general mix of the whole industry, including on and off site.”

Although Harry finds the work-load difficult, he believes working and studying together help each other and thinks it’s the best way to progress and learn quickly. His hard work has been supported by his past and present colleagues, with Harry giving a special thank you to Nathan Clews, Tom Groves and Dan Bourne.

Harry also wants to thank Shropshire Homes for their support throughout and for funding his HNC and degree. When asking Harry what he likes about working at Shropshire Homes, he said “I like that it is a local company with local people.” He also mentioned that he enjoys working with the team at Shropshire Homes!

A huge well done to Harry for his success so far, and long may it continue!
