As a celebration of Women in Construction Week, we’ve interviewed Agreements & Services Manager Pam Weston, who has just reached an incredible milestone of 20 years of working at Shropshire Homes!
Beginning in 1996 as an Assistant Buyer, Pam has been on quite a varied journey at Shropshire Homes, taking on various buying roles in our Commercial department before moving into Agreement & Services in our Technical department.
As well as her responsibilities for Shropshire Homes, Pam also supports the wider SH group as the Senior Project Coordinator of Shropshire Homes Management Services, overseeing the maintenance of our developments once they are completed, meaning she is truly involved in our developments every step of the way.
From her impressive length of service at Shropshire Homes, Pam is most proud of being able to share what she has learned; “imparting my knowledge gained over the years to everyone I train is always something I enjoy, watching them grow into their roles, it makes me feel like a proud mother.”
Pam cites the length of her service to her love for her job, but above all “the people – definitely the people. You spend a lot of time with the people that you work with, they are your work family, and I have the privilege to work with some amazing people, we are all there to support each other. It’s by no means easy, but I do love a challenge.”
Speaking on her experience as a woman in construction, Pam has seen a definite rise in the number of women in the industry, but has always felt the
industry has been a supportive and respectful place; “I have found everyone that I have encountered over my years to be respectful but I think it has definitely been changing over the years and that is probably because of how the culture has changed. There are a lot more women in the industry now, which is a good thing to see. It would be nice to see more women on the sites or site managers that are women, that is part of the industry that I think still needs some improvement.”
