As construction draws to a close at Shropshire Homes’ beautiful development Crudgington Fields, we’re looking back at the site’s history, and how Shropshire Homes successfully transformed a disused creamery into an area of thriving community.
Crudgington Creamery was originally formed as a co-operative in the 1920s, before being taken over in 1935 by the Milk Marketing Board, eventually operating under the Dairy Crest name producing butter and spreads.

Following a decision to close the creamery, works wound down slowly until 2014 when operations officially ceased, leading to the loss of approximately 160 jobs and leaving the creamery vacant, and falling into a state of disrepair.

Demolition began in 2015, with Shropshire Homes subsequently purchasing the land and gaining planning permission for a first phase of 119 new homes.
With construction beginning in Spring 2021 following on from the pandemic, Shropshire Homes aimed to reinstate a sense of community into an area fallen into disuse.
Over the last four years, the brownfield site has been transformed into a magnificent development, comprised of 2, 3, 4, & 5 bedroom houses from Shropshire Homes’ Legacy, Classic, and Prestige Collections. With the addition of the adjoining land Crudgington Fields Phase 2 providing a further 55 homes, the former Dairy Crest site has become home to hundreds of happy residents; the range of house sizes and convenient distance to major working hubs means Crudgington Fields has something for everyone!

As well as bringing a strong sense of community back to the area, Shropshire Homes also funded and installed a new roundabout where the A442 and B5062 meet, with the aim of managing traffic levels and increasing road safety in the area, following concerns regarding the previous crossroads.
