IT Manager at Shropshire Homes, Jon Sharrock, has had a successful month, raising £7672.25 for Midlands Air Ambulance and receiving an award of recognition for dedication and commitment of service to the market town of Shifnal.
In October, Jon Sharrock and friend, Geoff Phillips, trekked 100km in five days across the Sahara Dessert, camping along the way. The daytime heat hit highs of 40 degrees with night time temperatures reaching 28 degrees. The aim of the 100km trek was to fundraise for Midlands Air Ambulance, and last week Jon and Geoff were pleased to hand over a total of £7672.25 to the team. This incredible sum will cover at least two flights for Midlands Air Ambulance, with the potential to save two or more lives!
Last month, Jon Sharrock was also awarded for recognition of dedication and commitment of service provided to the people of Shifnal, through a group called Shifnal Shockers. The Shifnal Shockers group, ran by Jon, fundraises to install and support public access defibrillators. Since starting the group five years ago, Jon and his team have raised funds for a total of 11 defibrillators.
Jon was surprised to receive a letter from Shifnal Council, inviting him to attend the ‘Celebrating Shifnal’ service, held at St Andrews Church. During the ceremony, which was attended by a mixture of people receiving awards, St Andrews Primary School’s choir, local councillors and members of the public, Jon was presented his award by Shifnal’s Mayor.
