With the help of Shropshire Homes, students at Telford College have recently begun a wall restoration project at Weston Park.
Weston Park’s Grade II walls of its walled garden required significant restoration to its brick work, including a need for lime-mortar repointing and replacement of structural bricks. Weston Park, an independent charity and foundation, invited Telford College’s Level 2 Bricklaying Students to help restore the Grade II wall, providing them with work experience in traditional brick work that is not used in modern day builds. Having this experience will significantly help students with future conversion and restoration projects.
Shropshire Homes are well-known for restoring and converting old buildings into homes, having undertaken over 730 conversions. Therefore, when Weston Park and Telford College approached Shropshire Homes to ask for help in funding the project, the construction firm were more than happy to donate.
Jackie Bradnick, Lead Work Experience Co-ordinator at Telford College said “Having the opportunity to learn traditional heritage skills is so important for our students, as these are not skills taught in the contemporary curriculum, and the very generous donation from Shropshire Homes meant that we could start this project on time, giving the students every opportunity to develop and embed skills.”
