On Friday night, Shropshire Homes hosted a quiz and silent auction to raise money for West Mercia Search and Rescue and Prostate Cancer UK, raising an impressive total of £3361.50.
West Mercia Search and Rescue have been finding and saving people in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire since 2007, a team of unpaid civilians on-call 24/7 to come to the aid of those in danger. Money raised for West Mercia SAR goes towards their life-saving work, funding protective gear, medical kits, a fleet of boats and vehicles, training days, and much more.
Prostate Cancer UK aim to give every man the power to navigate the disease, as 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. They’ve invested over £100 million into research, testing, and treatment, with the hope that in the near future, every man at risk of prostate cancer can be invited for regular, accurate tests to catch cancer early enough for a cure.
With these two incredible causes in mind, the event was held at The Dolphin Inn, Shrewsbury, and hosted by Marketing Manager Rebecca Hayward and Marketing & Events Assistant Emma Shackleton.
Beginning with the quiz, 8 teams came together for some friendly competition, paying £5 a head towards our chosen charities. Following a fierce battle of wits, the team from Wace Morgan reigned victorious!
We followed the quiz with a silent auction which had been previously ongoing the week leading up to the quiz, with the final bids made on the night. We’d like to thank all the businesses and companies who donated prizes to the auction, and especially those who placed bids or donated to the charities – particularly to Gary Bould from DGB Groundworks and Shane Fletcher from LPD Demolition for their extremely generous donations.
We are very proud to have raised such a brilliant amount for two incredible charities - a special thank you goes out to all the attendees, participants, and the generous businesses that made this event possible!
