Sales Advisors at Shropshire Homes’ Grade II listed development, Leighton Park in Shrewsbury, have put together a number of ‘new home starter kits’, after seeing an online appeal from the local food bank.
Barnabas Community Projects in Longden Coleham recently listed new bedding, towels and other home essentials as the ‘items in need’ on their Food Bank Plus website, to support people in the town who had recently found accommodation and faced the considerable costs of moving into a new home for the first time. The project has seen a surge in demand this year as local people have felt the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Restrictions in place to curb the transmission of Covid-19 meant that many organisations have foregone their usual festive celebrations in the build-up to Christmas, and Shropshire Homes staff at Leighton Park decided to use their budget and resources to help the local community instead.
Each of the five parcels donated contained new bedding sets and sheets, a set of towels, dinner sets, cutlery and cups, as well as cooking utensils.

That’s why this appeal from Barnabas Community Projects really struck a chord with me. It has been a privilege to be able to help local people elsewhere in the community in some small way this Christmas time.”
