A few weeks ago, Shrewsbury College did a case study on T-level student, Shayma Bensaad's work experience at Shropshire Homes. T Levels offered by Shrewsbury Colleges Group (SCG) are developed alongside employers to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and behaviours they need for a career in the world of business such as administration, management, and communication skills.
Helen Pritchard, Sales & Marketing Director at Shropshire Homes Ltd, said she believes employers should invest time, and support young people in preparing them to become the workforce of the future.
A privilege to be involved with...
“It’s a real privilege to be involved in something as important as this, guiding and nurturing young students through a pivotal part of their education which could impact their employability and future careers.
“The placement is working really well, and Shayma has been a real joy for us at Shropshire Homes. She has worked across departments within the business and has thrived in all of them. She is very proactive, hardworking and a determined young lady who I believe will thrive and achieve her future goals!
“I know some businesses might take the view that theyare too busy with their own workloads without adding the responsibility of a young student into the mix. I would say to those organisations that having a T Level student is worthwhile as they bring value to your business.” - Helen Pritchard, Shropshire Homes.

The benefits of experience
Student Shayma Bensaad chose a T Level course for the benefits associated with the experience you will gain. The T-Level is equivalent to 3 A Levels but focuses primarily on one subject.
“The experience that is included is highly beneficial as it prepares you for real life outside of college. And being physically included in business activities can give you a clearer understanding of what career path you would like to take after college. By completing 20% of the course through practical work, it can encourage concentration in the remaining 80% of theory.
“Nowadays, employers are focusing on levels of experience as well as education levels and grades. I feel quite secure with my qualification as I know it can push me into university or a degree apprenticeship, which after college, I want to go on to do.” - Student, Shayma Bensaad.
