Shropshire Homes residents Jessica and Jamie moved into their three-bedroom Earlsdale home at Hanwood Heights in May 2020 and have been busy putting their stylishly individual stamp on it ever since. After spying their home improvements on Instagram, we decided to find out more and to get their top tips for creating a unique style in a newly-built property.
Jessica and Jamie say that they have both always loved newly-built properties, having lived in one previously and particularly like the clean and neutral finish, “even though they are beautiful straight away, new homes are perfectly primed for decorating in any way you like.”
A well matched pair for interiors projects, Jessica describes herself as the one with the creative vision, whilst Jamie has the practical skills for making their dreams a reality, such as with the building of additional storage space in the spacious third bedroom, currently used as a dressing room.
When it comes to choosing pattern and colour, Jessica likes to go bold and make a statement, like in their luxurious and eye-catching inky blue master bedroom, “I knew exactly what I wanted, and even though painting it such a bold, dramatic colour was a brave move, we absolutely loved it and didn’t regret it! The room feels cosy and inviting now. We wanted our bedroom to have a hotel feel, and we really think we have mastered that.”
Likewise, the matte black statement wall makes a striking addition to the kitchen and dining room, highlighting the contemporary lighting and dining furniture that the couple have chosen, “even though this wasn't a huge project, it made a dramatic change. It also seems to create two separate spaces in the one room, perfect for ‘zoning’ a sociable open-plan layout like this.”
Their latest project is the downstairs w/c, and Jessica favours taking a flamboyant approach to add a sense of fun, “even though they’re the smallest room of the house, I think it’s a room you can go all out in. I found these beautiful gold fan shaped tiles I wanted. We have never tiled before and it was a real challenge but they have turned out really well! We put a dado rail round the middle of the room and painted the bottom half black, which is an amazing contrast against the tiles. We have chosen a very vibrant wallpaper to go round the top half, too.”
Although Jessica and Jamie have already achieved a beautiful and inviting place to call home, there are more improvements planned in the near future, “in the short term, we would love to decorate the guest bedroom. We have kept it fairly neutral for now, but we are desperate to put our stamp on it. However, it takes time to make a house a home, and I think by taking our time we will create a home that we love for years to come.”
