Shropshire Homes are pleased to congratulate Darragh Frith in passing his carpentry apprenticeship three months early and with flying colours!
Having started his apprenticeship in Level 2 Site Carpentry with Shrewsbury College at 16 years old, Darragh has just completed it with a distinction in his practical and interview, as well as a merit in this multiple-choice exam.
Before beginning his apprenticeship, Darragh was no stranger to Shropshire Homes, having completed his work experience with us when he was 15. Knowing he wanted to work in a practical construction role and after speaking to several carpenters, he thought he’d enjoy carpentry. Luckily, he does and is clearly skilled at it!
The apprenticeship involved just one day a week in college and the rest of the week with Shropshire Homes. Working on a variety of sites, including Crudgington Fields, Forest Edge, Oakmere Ridge, Whitehall Gardens and Mytton Oak Manor, Darragh has been able to obtain in-depth experience on a range of homes.
Darragh commented, “Shropshire Homes have really showed me the ins and outs of construction, giving me great experience, training and connections to other trades. I’ve particularly enjoyed working on Whitehall Gardens with the big bespoke homes and cottage conversions.”
Following in his Dad’s footsteps…
Darragh’s dad is one of Shropshire Homes award-winning Site Managers, Liam Frith (pictured looking very proud with Darragh). Darragh paid a special thank you to his dad and other carpenters who have mentored him along the way – Rob, Mark and Ash, as well as Euan Davies-Williams and Matt Read who have previously completed their apprenticeships with Shropshire Homes.
So, what now for Darragh?
Darragh would like to continue his work at Shropshire Homes and complete level 3 in carpentry which would give him a gold card and open-up opportunities to work in Australia for a period. Following his travels, he’d like to return to Shropshire Homes in the future to continue his career in carpentry.
