Last month, Shropshire Homes began supplying bleed-control kits across their developments. As part of the new initiative, the bleed kits will be stored in the cabinet with the defibrillators that are also provided by Shropshire Homes.
Bleed-control kits are an important measure, which include tourniquets, bandages and haemostatic dressings, and are vital in helping prevent people from bleeding to death while paramedics race to the scene. Each bleed kit is registered with West Midlands Ambulance Service, so in an emergency they will be able direct the person on scene to the kit.
First Aid Trainer, Jon Sharrock, who implemented the bleed kit initiative, said “With many of our team working on construction sites, this is an extra measure we have taken in case of emergencies. I have registered the kits with the West Midlands Ambulance Service, which means they will be able to help locate the kit in an emergency and explain over the phone how to use it to prevent further bleeding until they arrive.”
The first set of Bleed kits were delivered across each of Shropshire Homes’ developments, including Oakmere Ridge, Lawrence Park, Foundry Point and Head Office. Once the remaining kits have arrived, they will also be installed across all live sites.
